The Bell's Board of Directors
Penfield Tate III, Chair, is a shareholder with the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, was a candidate for mayor of Denver in 2003. He served as state senator from 2001-2003 and in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1999-2002. In addition, he has served as executive director of the Colorado Department of Administration during the Romer administration, as an aide to former Denver Mayor Federico Peña, and as a transition team co-chair for Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper.
Merle Chambers is the president of Leith Ventures LLC, a privately held investment company. She is the former CEO of Axem Resources. Merle also is president of the Chambers Family Fund, a private family foundation focused on economic self-sufficiency for women, early care and education of children, girls' futures, and social justice.
Jean Dubofsky was the first woman justice appointed to the Colorado Supreme Court, where she served from 1979 to 1987. Among the wide variety of appeals she has handled is Romer v. Evans, a landmark case before the U.S. Supreme Court. She began her career as a legal services attorney and has been practicing law for more than 30 years.
Scott Martinez is an associate in the litigation department at Holland & Hart in Denver. He developed the congressional and legislative district maps for Colorado following the 2000 Census, and was the key witness in the appeal of the congressional district boundaries initially adopted by the state legislature.
Linda Morton was mayor of Lakewood from 1991-1999. Prior to that, she was a city councilwoman for 10 years. She also has served as chair of the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) and on the board of the National Association of Councils of Governments. She currently manages her own consulting company.
Linda Shoemaker is president of the Brett Family Foundation and the former president of the Boulder Valley School Board. Linda practiced law for more than 10 years with Holme Roberts & Owen in Denver and Brauchli & Snyder in Boulder. Before becoming an attorney, she was a journalist and owned a weekly Colorado mountain newspaper.
